Harmony Science Academy a Gulen Charter School

Harmony Science Academy in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico are under the Cosmos Foundation. The Cosmos Foundation ran by Turkish Nationals who are known members of the Gulen Movement have abused many state and federal laws. Cosmos is the largest abuser of H1-B Visas for foreign teachers than the largest school district in America. Scratch your head and wonder why the Gulen Movement is getting away with reverse discrimination? Texas money crosses over state lines to support the other Gulen Managed charter schools, this is WRONG!! Gulen Harmony charter Schools under scrutiny in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (Texas News Service) — U.S. taxpayers have invested more than $3.7 billion in charter schools over the last two decades, but according to a new report from the Center for Media and Democracy, the public has been kept mostly in the dark as to how that money is spent. Sandy Theis is executive director of Progress Ohio, a coalition member of the Charter School Accountability Project. She says unlike public schools, whose budgets are subject to democratically elected school boards, charter spending has become a black hole. “What we’ve seen nationally is that charter schools in Texas and in a lot of other states have not fulfilled the promise,” says Theis. “Their academic performance is pretty bad, and they do a magnificent job of wasting taxpayer money.” Charter advocates argue less oversight on budgets and performance encourages innovation and flexibility. But as a result of lax policy, Theis says charters with poor academic performance – even schools under investigation for fraud – continue to operate at the public’s expense. One charter group drawing increased scrutiny in Texas is Harmony Public Schools, with 46 campuses serving more than 28,000 students in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth and San Antonio. Theis says Harmony is affiliated with Gulen charters, which has been the subject of federal and municipal criminal investigations for immigration fraud and financial mismanagement. “There is a mountain of evidence that shows they tamper with their tests,” she says. “They have serious questions about the qualifications of their teachers, and their schools don’t perform academically. They fail to meet the basic mission, and that’s educating our kids.” According to Theis, Gulen schools operate in 26 states, educate 50,000 students and collect $150 million in taxpayer funds every year. Theis says she’s hopeful the new report will spur Texas authorities to pay more attention to charters so future taxpayer dollars don’t fall into the wrong hands. - See more at: http://www.orangeleader.com/2015/11/04/texas-charter-schools-under-scrutiny/#sthash.m7EzofK0.dpuf

EXCERPTS FROM THIS ARTICLE:
BATON ROUGE- Wednesday evening's FBI raid on a charter school in East Baton Rouge is the latest item in a list of scandals involving the organization that holds the charter for the Kenilworth Science and Technology School.
Pelican Educational Foundation runs the school [and also Abramson] and has ties to a family from Turkey. The organization lost its school in New Orleans amid allegations of sexual misconduct among students that prompted a state investigation on campuses in the Crescent City and in Baton Rouge. It has also faced lawsuits and allegations from teachers about bad learning environments.
"It was an atmosphere where there was a double standard," one former teacher told WBRZ News 2 in an investigation into the school in EBR. Former teachers were not happy with how things were handled when they spoke with a station reporter two years ago.
No one was ever charged in the sex allegations a school spokesperson pointed out Wednesday as federal investigators moved through the campus collecting items, putting them in boxes and then loading them into a van.
The school receives about $5,000,000 in local, state, and federal tax money. In 2012, the Pelican group was accused of improperly handling money by the Legislative Auditor. A report found about $8600 was improperly used to buy gifts for students who scored high on LEAP tests.
About the same time as allegations and lawsuits began dealing with Pelican charter schools, a BESE member took an improper trip on behalf of another Turkish organization. Linda Johnson, who is no longer on BESE, was fined for breaking the law by the ethics board. She got an all expenses paid trip to Turkey.
Kenilworth Science and Technology School will be open Thursday.
